'Realities & Legalities' seminar about wind energy slated for June 21 at ISMS
By Jennifer Zartman Romano
Whitley County Concerned Citizens will be sponsoring a seminar on industrial wind farms on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, beginning at 6 p.m. The event will be held at Indian Springs Middle School and the community is invited to attend.
The WCCC has invited Dave and Stephanie Hulthen of Dekalb, Illinois, to speak about their first-hand experience living in the middle of an industrial wind farm. The couple will talk frankly about how this has impacted their way of life and that of their children as they live within a mile of several wind turbines.
Additionally, professor Roger McEowen, director of the Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation at Iowa State University, will share his insights into the economic ramifications of wind-generated electricity. McEowen will also discuss taxpayer subsidies surrounding wind energy production and will talk about the complexities of agreements between landowners and wind industry companies.
