Extra caution needed when driving through flooded areas

From reports

We have had very active spring weather throughout the past week, with multiple rain showers and thunderstorms in our area. This heavy rainfall has caused major flooding, impacting crops and roadways.
Remember, driving into flood waters is very dangerous. According to the National Weather Service, flash floods are the number one cause of deaths associated with thunderstorms.
With more rain in the forecast, please follow these tips:
- Use headlights when windshield wipers are needed;
- Properly inflate tires and maintain good tire tread;
- Turn off cruise control and reduce speed;
- Avoid puddles and standing water;
- Stop and turn slowly; and
- Drive in the tire tracks of the car in front of you.
Please be safe and avoid roadways covered by water, as they present serious risks. Water maybe deeper than it appears, and may conceal sink holes and debris.
