Five Whitley County employers recognized for workplace wellness by the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne

Five Whitley County employers were recognized with Platinum Level awards by the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne recently as part of their 9th Annual Workplace Wellness Awards at the Parkview Mirro Center on October 12.
Whitley County employers receiving the awards included the City of Columbia City, Fort Wayne Metals, Micropulse, Parkview Health and Shindigz.
The awards, which recognize employers who create healthier workplaces for employees, are based on the National YMCA's Community Healthy Living Index, which is an assessment of a workplace's physical environment, physical activity opportunities, health promotional efforts, healthy eating options and company policies. Each company was given an index score that marked their placement along the workplace wellness continuum.
Dr. Angela LaSalle, Medical Director of Parkview Physicians Group Integrative Medicine, and Dr. Mark O'Shaughnessy, Cardiologist with Parkview Heart Institute, both spoke at the event. Dr. LaSalle shared her expertise on how stress affects our workplace and what employers can do to help combat those stressors. She also challenged employers to build a healthy workplace culture instead of just a wellness program. Dr. O'Shaughnessy shared the benefits of physical activity not just for the body, but for mind and spirit as well. He also emphasized the importance of group support in any wellness efforts both at the workplace and at home.
Other employers recognized included Ash Brokerage, Ashley Industrial Molding, BAE Systems, Brooks Construction, Design Collaborative, Fleet Feet Sports Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne Community Schools, Fort Wayne Housing Authority, Hylant, Regal Beloit and the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne were honored for their comprehensive approach including a wide variety of on-site programs along with policies which support the continuation of healthy lifestyles for employees.
Gold Level companies, including Brightpoint, Complete Wellness Solutions, Galecki Financial Management, Sirva, and Weigand Construction, were recognized for their workplace wellness programs that had shown visible results.
Five companies who demonstrated exceptional programs and environments were also honored in the following categories: Rising Star went to Fort Wayne Housing Authority; Most Employee Engagement went to Regal Beloit; Most Strategic Initiative went to Micropulse; Most Wellness Impact went to Complete Wellness Solutions; Most Innovative Program went to Sirva.
