Summer workshop planned for teen entrepreneurs

From reports

Area teens interested in starting their own business will have an opportunity to explore entrepreneurship and actually execute their own real business at a Summer Entrepreneurship Workshop June 18-20 at Purdue University Fort Wayne.  The workshop is being offered by the Northeast Indiana Small Business Development Center in partnership with the Purdue Fort Wayne Office of Academic Internships, Cooperative Education, and Service Learning (OACS) and the Purdue Fort Wayne Division of Continuing Studies.

This three-day summer workshop was developed to inspire and empower the next generation of entrepreneurs. Participants will learn their own personal work style, their own motivators, and their skill sets as they develop their business idea. The teens will be guided through the start-up process by local business owners and trainers from the Northeast Indiana SBDC and other organizations who are passionate about helping the next generation succeed in serving the marketplace and the community.

The sponsors stress that "this is NOT an exercise for experience, but rather a real-world business incubator for high school students." For three full days, workshop participants will be immersed in modules specially designed for the entrepreneur. They will learn idea development and real-world execution in business-related areas such as marketing, budgeting, sales and more. The teens also will take an assessment to help both them and their parents see their top skills, strengths, motivators and value to a team; and at the end of the three-day workshop, they will be in a position to execute their own real business.

Due to space limitations, students should register as soon as possible. Registration instructions and more information are available through the Division of Continuing Studies website and can be accessed through bit.ly/IPFWinnovate. The cost for this three-day workshop is $25 per person after entering the promo code SUMMER75. Thanks to grant monies provided by the Purdue Fort Wayne OACS, the normal $100 workshop fee is reduced by $75 with the promo code.
