Ruth C. Porter, 78, of Lexington, Kentucky, died on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Central Baptist Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born November 10, 1929 in McRoberts, Kentucky, a daughter of Werner and Margie E. (Campbell) Hedrick. She completed her education at Central High School in McRoberts.
Ruth was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and a former member of the Free Will Baptist Church of Columbia City.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Josie L. Porter of Grayson, Kentucky; two sons, Dr.Vincent A. Porter of Louisville, Kentucky, and Joseph W. (June) Porter Jr. of Taylorsville, Kentucky; six grandchildren, John (Kim) Casto of St. Albans, West Virginia, Stephen (Yuki) Casto of South Charleston, West Virginia, Karina, Daniel, and Joseph Porter III, all of Taylorsville, Kentucky and Richard M. (Kimberlie) Bermudez of Houston, Texas; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret (Bill) Kintzel of South Whitley, Mary Rose (Ed) Bunger of Sarasota, Florida, and Yolanda (James) Couch of Columbia City; a brother, David L. (Joanna) Sturgill of Milford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph W. Porter Sr.; a daughter, Merry Ruth Casto; her second husband, Henry Maggard; two sisters, Ellen Christman and Katherine Watts; and a brother, Ralph Hedrick.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The burial will be at South Park Annex Cemetery at a later date.
