Lois M. Buffington, 81, a resident of Columbia City, died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at her home. 
She was born April 15, 1927 in Whitley County, Indiana a daughter of Herman and Ruth (Baker) Schipper. Her formative years were spent in Whitley County where she attended South Whitley schools. She graduated from Ravenscroft Beauty College in 1944.
On August 3, 1946 she was united in marriage to Max R. Buffington. They made their first home in Huntington County. In 1952 they moved to their present home on a farm north of Columbia City.
A career hair stylist, she owned and operated Lois’s Beauty Shop, Columbia City. In addition she was an avid gardener, enjoyed bowling and spending time fishing at her special fishing hole. She was well traveled and visited most areas of the country including Alaska. She attended Salem Community Missionary Church.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Sharon Lynn Buffington, Brookville, Florida, and Joyce (Steve) Adair, Pierceton; two sisters, Kathryn Betz of Huntington and Velma (Robert) Johnson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and John Schipper and one sister, Marie Sickafoose.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Curtiss Johnson and Rev. John T. Morgan officiating. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May, 10, 2008 at the funeral home.
