Yolanda J. Couch, age 62, a resident of rural Columbia City, died of natural causes Monday morning, May 12, 2008 at her home.
She was born February 7, 1946, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Werner and Margie (Sturgill) Hedrick. As a young girl, her family moved to Larwill from Fort Wayne. She completed her education at Larwill High School.
On August 19, 1963, she was united in marriage to James Stanley Couch Sr. They made their first home in Columbia City, later moving to Kentucky for two years. They returned to Union Township, Whitley County, for many years before moving to their home in Columbia Township 22 years ago.
She was employed at Alcoils and later was a dietician at Columbia City Nursing Home and then Riverview Care Center in Fort Wayne.
Her memberships include Free Will Baptist Church. She was also an avid Bingo player.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Jim; four sons, Ed (Wendy) Couch, Mike Couch, Jay Couch and Scott (Karen) Coach, all of Columbia City; a daughter, Trina (Jamison) Nuttle of Churubusco; 19 grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret (Bill) Kintzel of South Whitley and Mary Rose (Ed) Bunger of Sarasota, Florida; a brother, David L. (Joanna) Sturgill of Milford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and step-father, David Sturgill Sr., she is preceded in death three sisters, Ellen Christman, Katherine Watts and Ruth Porter; and a brother, Ralph Hedrick.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2008, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery. The visitation will be held at 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
