Shirley Ruth Myers, 80

Shirley Ruth Myers, 80, of Etna Troy Township, died at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Parkview Whitley Hospital where she was admitted in the afternoon.
She was born August 31, 1927 in Kosciusko County, a daughter of Fred and Olive (Ivans) Long. Her formative years were spent in Kosciusko County and Illinois.
On July 19, 1952 she was united in marriage to Claude V. Myers. They made their home in Leesburg until 1960 when they moved to a farm in Etna Troy Township. Mr. Myers died January 12, 2001.
She was employed at Liberty Café in Warsaw for over five years, United Telephone Company for over four years and Walker’s Tennaco Automotive for eight years, retiring in 1993.
Her memberships included Etna United Methodist Church and formerly the Rebekah Lodge in Etna.
Surviving relatives include five daughters, Wendy G. Myers, Brenda J. (Richard) Boles and Cindy L. Myers, all of Columbia City, Deborah A. (Louis) Slabach of Shipshewana and Phyllis J. (Larry) Wright of Plymouth; four sons, Steve G. (Patty) Myers of Syracuse, Daniel A. Myers and Robert I. Myers, both of Etna, and H. Lee (Joyce) Myers of Lafayette; 27 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Verna Hathaway and Vera Drudge, both of Pierceton; and two step-brothers, William F. Long and Russell H. Long, both of Warsaw.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by twin great-grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Ivin Cole and Franklin Cole; a step-brother, John R. Long; and two step-sisters, Mary Lou Long and Aletha Caudill.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Rev. Karen Biddle, pastor of Etna United Methodist Church, officiating. The burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Wilmot. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
