Beulah Mae Kessie, 81, a resident of Columbia City, died at 1:10 am today, August 27, 2008 in the Miller’s Merry Manor where she had been a resident since May 2006.
She was born May 6, 1927, in Whitley County, Indiana a daughter of Edward L. and Bertha M. (Watson) Holycross. Her formative years were spent in Richland Township and she graduated from Larwill High School.
On June 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to Jack H. Kessie. They have always made their home in Whitley County, moving to their home in Columbia City in November 1993.
She was a member of Troy Presbyterian Church.
The surviving relatives include her husband, Jack; a son, Gary (Jolene) Kessie of Columbia City; two daughters, Linda Diane VanVoorst of Fort Wayne and Shirley Darlene Carpenter of Hendersonville, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Brent Carpenter, Krista Carpenter, Danyelle Estep and Adam Kessie; four great grandchildren, Michael, Cameron and Ashton Estep and Riley Kessie and two sisters, Louise Walter and Carol Watson, both of Columbia City.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Sue Kessie, three brothers, Eudolph “Doc” Holycross, Ralph Holycross and Glen Holycross; and four sisters, Ida Wilkinson, Viola Bondehagen, Dorthy Berk and Irene Holycross.
The funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City with Rev. Howard Compton, pastor of Troy Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. J. Phillip Blake officiating. The burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral home.
