Perry Kay Short, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the former owner-operator of Shorts Ice Cream Company. More recently, he and his wife, Barbara worked together as remodeling contractors.

He was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corp.

"Kay loved dogs, quiet times by water, chocolate and duct tape. His passion in life was helping other people. Thank you Dad, your love for your family was your greatest gift to us; a model for others and a lasting legacy."

Survivors include daughters, Barbee (David) Eberhart of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Emylu (Don) Osos of Columbia City; and grandchildren, Toph (Diane) Eberhart and Gretta Eberhart, both of Dallas, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, in 1983. Private services will be held. Arrangements by D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, Fort Wayne. Entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens.
