Velma L. Pequignot Murbach, 97

Velma L. Pequignot Murbach, 97, of Columbia City, died at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Renaissance Village where she had been a resident since February 2006.
She was born August 14, 1911, in Jefferson Township, Whitley County a daughter of Logan and Orpha (Sheets) Freck. A lifelong resident of Whitley County, her formative years were spent in Jefferson Township. She graduated from Jefferson Center High School.
On December 3, 1932 she was united in marriage to Theodore Edward Pequignot. They made their home in Dunfee a few years before moving to Columbia City. Mr. Pequignot died February 15, 1979.
She was employed several years at Alcoils.
In 1988, she was united in marriage to Harmon Paul Murbach. They always made their home in Columbia City. Mr. Murbach died May 19, 2005.
She was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Lynn (Lourine) Pequignot of Fort Wayne, Larry Pequignot of Illinois and Lowell (Tina) Pequignot of Glendale, Arizona; two step-daughters, Joy (David) Heinbaugh and Linda (Jack) Sevier, both of Columbia City; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Garland Freck and a sister, Alice Miller.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Jean Ness, associate pastor of Columbia City United Methodist Church, officiating. The burial will be in Jefferson Chapel Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
