Richard Walter DeTurk, 87, a resident of Grace Village, Winona Lake, died Sunday, October 26, 2008.
He was born May 30, 1921, in Fort Wayne, Indiana a son of Walter and Terzath (Alshouse) DeTurk. His formative years were spent in Fort Wayne where he completed his education.
In August 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Alaska during World War II. He was honorably discharged November 3, 1945.
On June 16, 1948, he was united in marriage to Rosaline May Gunter. They made their home Wabash, Peru and later North Manchester, where they lived from 1980 until 2008.
He was employed at GenCorp in Wabash for 18 years.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Rosaline; a son, Paul (Rita) DeTurk of Columbia City; a daughter, Celesta Joyce DeTurk of New Mexico; three brothers, Clarence DeTurk of Florida, Lewis DeTurk of Peru and Ralph DeTurk of Wabash; and a sister, Hazel Reed of Wabash.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman DeTurk and Guy DeTurk.
There will be no visitation or service.
