Wallace Harold Hill, 64, of South Whitley, passed away quietly Thursday, November 20, 2008, at home surrounded by his loving family. He had courageously fought cancer for the past several years.
He was born August 28, 1944 in Elyria, Ohio, a son of Harry N. and Marguerite (Tillson) Hill. He spent his formative years in Elyria where he attended elementary school and graduated from Elyria High School in 1962.
In June 1962, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He became an aircraft mechanic and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968.
An accomplished mechanic, he worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Washington, before returning to the area where he turned his skills to automotive mechanic. He was employed by Umber Automotive, Fort Wayne for 16 years retiring in 2003.
He is survived by his mother, Marguerite Hill of Springfield, Ohio, three sisters, Aleta McHenry, Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Louanna Delf, Burnsville, North Carolina and Barbara (Ron) Begue, Columbia City; seven nieces and nephews; 20 great-nieces and nephews, a great-great-niece and a great-great-nephew.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death his beloved companion, Kathy Foster, who died in 1999.
There will be no funeral or visitation. Arrangements are by Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
For those who wish, memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
