Charles Ivan Pettigrew, 85, passed away at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Renaissance Village, where he was admitted 4 days earlier.
Born on December 28, 1922, in Union Township, Whitley County, he was the son of Charles and Alta (Kissell) Pettigrew.
He graduated with the Class of 1942 from Coesse High School.
On April 21, 1950 he was united in marriage to Martha Ellen Gordon by Rev. Jesse R. Martin at the Nazarene Parsonage in Churubusco.
He owned and operated the Pettigrew Family Farm his entire lifetime.
He was a member of Centerview Community Church, South Whitley. His hobbies included gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel Lee (Debra) Pettigrew of Columbia City and David A. (Cindy) Pettigrew of South Whitley; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joy (Robert) Haney of Columbia City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Terry Lynn Pettigrew in 1989 and Donald Ivan Pettigrew in 1993, brothers, Eldon DeRoy, William, Robert and Alverl Pettigrew.
Visitation is Friday, December 12, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home in Columbia City. Funeral service is Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Rev. Roy Blake of the Centerview Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Nolt Cemetery, Columbia City.
Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Pettigrew to the American Diabetes Association.
