Betty Jean Crosson, 84

Betty Jean Crosson, 84, of Columbia City passed away at 11:35 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Byron Health Center in Fort Wayne.

Born August 11, 1924 in Martinsville, Indiana, she was the daughter of Ancil and O. Juanita (Freeman) Hammons. She graduated from Martinsville High School with the Class of 1942 and attended Indiana University Medical Center School of Nursing completing her studies as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1962.

She worked at IU Medical Center from 1958-1965. She also worked for the Economic Development Corporation in Columbia City for five years and at Plaza Laundry in Columbia City for four years.

Born and raised in Martinsville, Indiana, she moved to Indianapolis in 1958 living there until 1965 when she moved to Huntington. In 1973, she moved to Peabody and in 1987, she moved to Columbia City.

She was a member of Oak Grove Church of God, the Audubon Society and the National Arbor Day Foundation. She enjoyed computer work, gardening and learning new things.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis D. (Linda) Crosson of Columbia City, Craig R. (Ginger) Crosson of Larwill and Gerald L. Williams; daughter, Lori J. Mackey of Calabassas, California; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joseph A. Hammons of Martinsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Kenneth A. Sprouse, and sister, Eileen Hammons. Services will be private.
