Jerry L. Griffith, 80, passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

Born in Huntington, he proudly served as a member of the For Wayne Police Department in capacities from patrolman to captain of juvenile aid for 20 1/2 years, retiring in 1973. He was employed with Lincoln National Bank for 17 years.

He graduated from South Side High School in 1946; was a lifetime member of FOP and American Legion Post 241 Waynedale; and was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran.

He loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was an avid sports fan.

He married Shirley A. (Kilty) Griffith on March 17, 1951; she survives. Also surviving are his children, Sandra L. (George) Juillerat of Ossian, LeeAnn (Mike) Richter of Columbia City, Guy W. (Eileen) Griffith, Richard N. (Tina) Griffith, and Bret A. (Deborah) Griffith, all of Fort Wayne; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gayle and Opal Slater Griffith; and a granddaughter, Melinda Rybolt.

Service is 2 p.m. Thursday at D.O. McComb & Sons Foster Park Funeral Home,

6301 Fairfield Ave.

, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
