David Eugene “Gene” Dunfee, 88, of Columbia City, died at 5:25 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2009 at his home.
He was born April 9, 1920 in Fort Wayne, Indiana a son of David H. and Estella C. (Barney) Dunfee. At the age of 15, his family moved to Richland Township, Whitley County. He graduated from Larwill High School in 1938. 
On May 30, 1942 he was united in marriage to Lucille L. “Lucy” Lundquist. They made their home in Fort Wayne for eight years before moving to a farm west of Larwill on Old Trail Road. Mrs. Dunfee died August 31, 1998. In 2006, he moved to his home west of Columbia City.
In addition to farming, he retired from General Electric with 39 years of service in 1981.
He attended South Whitley United Methodist Church and was a member of Larwill Lions Club.
Surviving relatives include two sons, David (Barbara) Dunfee of Columbia City and Doug (Marsha) Dunfee of Vail, Arizona; two daughters, Janice (Royce) Ruckman of Huntington and Patricia (Richard) Schroeder of Warsaw; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a brother, Calvin Dunfee of Columbia City.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Dunfee and Edward Dunfee.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Pastor Al Buehler officiating. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
