Robert M. Thompson, 60, of Columbia City, died at 7:40 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2009 at New Haven Care and Rehab Center, New Haven.

He was born in Whitley County  on October 9, 1948, the son of Robert M. and Ellen M. (Coyle) Thompson. He was a lifetime resident of Whitley County until 2003, when he entered the nursing home.

He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1967. He married Diane K. Rumsyre on July 18, 1970, at Washington United Methodist Church.

He served in the United States Navy and was a former Allen Dairy employee working in maintenance department and last was employed with C&R Plating in Columbia City, as a maintenance supervisor.

Survivors included his two sons, Robert M. (Brenda) Thompson of South Whitley; Chad D. (Tabitha) Thompson of Albion; a daughter, Amber K. (Matthew) Joley of Fort Wayne; 9 grandchildren; 4 brothers and sisters, Judy (Mike) Coleman of Glen Carbon, Illinois; Steve (Cindy) Thompson of Columbia City; Brenda (Kevin) Stanley of Columbia City, and Tom Thompson of Glen Carbon, Illinois.

He is preceded in death by his parents and former wife, Diane K. Thompson.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City. Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Funeral Celebrant Sharon Brockhaus officiating. Burial will be at Nolt Cemetery, Columbia City, IN.
