Kenneth R. Mahan, 69, of South Whitley, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Oaks in Columbia City where he had been a resident since December 30, 2008.
He was born December 1, 1939 in Dearborn, Michigan, to Roman B. and Helen Marie (Sutton) Mahan. As a young boy, his family moved to Portageville, Missouri. During his teens, the family moved to Fort Wayne where he attended South Side High School.
On November 29, 1958, he was united in marriage to Ione M. Johnson. He served in the U.S. Army with an honorable discharge in 1961.
He owned the Tire Mart in Fort Wayne from 1959 until he sold the business in 1995. He continued to work there part-time until 2005. He was a member of the Roanoke Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ione; four sons, Kenneth Ray Mahan, Fort Wayne, Darryl L. Mahan, Fort Wayne, Ivan (Tammy) Mahan and Christopher (Susan) Mahan both of Columbia City; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Tylan B. Mahan, one brother, Danny McMahan and a sister, Angela Carlisle.
Funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with calling from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery.
