Madalyn Ann “Smat” Rex, 82

Madalyn Ann “Smat” Rex, 82, of Columbia City passed away at 4:25 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at her home.

Born on August 7, 1926 in Columbia City, she was the daughter of George William and Mary Catherine (Marker) Morrissey. 

She graduated with the Class of 1944 from Columbia City High School. On January 6, 1945 she married Fred Rex in Columbia City. A lifetime Columbia City resident and homemaker, she was self-employed as a commercial cleaner for multiple businesses in Whitley County.   

Survivors include her children, Peggy Rex of Columbia City and J.L. Rex of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Ginger Rex (Ron DeLucca and his 2 sons) and Brian Rex both of Columbia City.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Rex, and daughter, Sharon Fosnaugh, brothers, Charles “Bill” Morrissey and Richard Morrissey, and sisters, Betty Manns and Valetta A. Mantle. 

Visitation is Thursday, April 23, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City. Funeral service is 1:00 p.m. with 1 hour of calling prior to service Friday, April 24, 2009 at the funeral home with Reverend Curtiss Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Thorn Cemetery , Ormas, Noble County.

Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Rex to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana with envelopes available at the funeral home.
