Dorothy L. “Dot” Rodgers, 85, of Loon Lake, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 3, 2009.
She was born February 4, 1924, in Fort Wayne, Indiana a daughter of LeRoy and Ada Marie (McClain) Hapner. Her formative years were spent in Fort Wayne. She roller skated with Roll Around Flyers.
She married Charles B. “Bud” Rodgers on May 23, 1942 in Fort Wayne. They have resided at Loon Lake since 1960. They have welcomed youth to their beach front for many generations.
A homemaker, she volunteered at Whitley County Hospital for 34 years. She also helped with many services in the community including Kids Dreamland, Loon Lake Association, helped start Whitley County Recycling Center and served as Whitley County Senior Citizen Queen.
She was a member of Ormas Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School secretary.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Bud; three children, Charles W. (JoAnn) Rodgers of Fowlerville, Michigan, Richard L. (Melodie) Rodgers of Syracuse and Marsha (Boyd) Zickafoose of Columbia City; eight grandkids; 11 great grandkids; and two great great grandkids.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Hapner.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Preferred memorials are to Ormas Baptist Church or Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
