Margaret A. Hayes, 88

Margaret A. Hayes, 88, of Houston, Texas, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Houston Hospice, Houston, Texas.

She was born on December 16, 1920 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois and was the daughter of Burton S. and Martha M. (Heck) Rupp. She has lived in Mishawaka and Gary, Indiana, Colorado Springs, Colorado, then Columbia City, Indiana, from 1965-2006 and from 2006 to present in Houston, Texas.

She graduated from Hyde Park High School with the Class of 1937 and went to LDS Business College, Salt Lake City, Utah for 2 years.

On May 2, 1941 she married James M. Hayes in Gary, Indiana. She worked at Sears Catalog Store, Columbia City, for 12 years and a long distance phone operator. She was a member of Newcomers Club, TOPS Club and Columbia City United Methodist Church, a Cub Scout Leader for 3 years and a Girl Scout Brownies leader for 3 years and President of the PTA when her children were in school.

Survivors include her son, James (Joyce) Patrick Hayes of Satsuma, Florida; daughter, Joanne Hayes-Terry of Houston, Texas; cousin, great grandchildren, Amber and Erica Smith of Jacksonville, Florida; Marjorie Specht of Pompano Beach, Florida; niece Susan Miller of Pompano Beach, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents,; husband, James M. Hayes, Brother, Burton L. Rupp and sister-in-law, Mary Rupp. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2009 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the funeral home with Paul Arnold of United Methodist Church officiating.

Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Hayes memory to Columbia City United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
