Milda Dittmer, 99

Milda Dittmer, 99, formerly of Union Township, Whitley County, died at 2:58 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Hospice Home where she was admitted on May 12.

She was born March 8, 1910 in Adams County, Indiana, a daughter of Ernst and Julianna (Conrad) Scheumann. She attended a parochial day school in Decatur at Zion Friedheim Lutheran Church where she was confirmed on April 13, 1924.

On September 9, 1944, she was united in marriage to Victor Dittmer. They made their home on a farm in Union Township. On December 13, 2001, Milda moved into the Lutheran Home in Fort Wayne. Mr. Dittmer died March 30, 2002.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and its Dorcas Society. She also served on the funeral dinner committee for many years.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Raymond (Laura) Dittmer and Verlin (Connie) Dittmer, all of Columbia City; a daughter, Elaine (Don) Kincaid of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Adele Scheumann, Malinde Scheumann and Velma Dittmer; and six brothers, Henry, Reinhard, Wilbur, Clarence, Lawrence and Arnold.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lutheran Home Chapel, 6701 S. Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne with one hour of visitation prior to the service in the chapel. The burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Columbia City. The visitation will also be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
