Mary C. Elbert, 88, formerly of Goose Lake, died at 10:50 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Peabody Home, North Manchester where she had been a resident since January 2007. 
She was born January 29, 1921, in Topeka, Kansas, a daughter of George A. and Magdelen (Kippes) Baumgartner. As a young girl, her family moved from Topeka to Chicago. She completed her education at the St. Alphonsus School in Chicago.
On August 14, 1937, she was united in marriage to Willard B. Elbert. They made their home in Chicago until 1964 when they moved to Carpentersville, Illinois. Mr. Elbert died June 18, 1985.
She was employed at Muntz Television, Central Electronics, Skill, Quaker Oats and Multigraphics. In 1987, she moved to Goose Lake and began working in the kitchen for her daughter and friend at Goose Lake Resort.
Her memberships included St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church and formerly St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Carpentersville.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Patricia McDonald of Franklin Park, Illinois, and Sylvia Elbert of Columbia City; two grandchildren, Michael (Dorice) McDonald and Jennifer (Mark) McDonald; two great-grandchildren, Gavin & Cailyn; three sisters, Rose Nannemann of Cateechee, South Carolina, Mildred Deering of Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin, and Betty Prehn of Liberty, South Carolina; and a brother, George Baumgartner of Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alex Baumgartner and a step-brother, William Schmidt.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Community Funeral Home, Dundee, Illinois, with visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The burial will follow at Dundee Township Cemetery, East Dundee, Illinois.
Preferred memorials are to Peabody Home.
Arrangements are being completed by Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
