Phyllis P. Miller, 90, a lifelong resident of rural Columbia City, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Phyllis was born December 18, 1918, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of the late Paul and Alta (Hawk) Egolf. She was a graduate of Churubusco High School with the class of 1936, and had worked as a seamstress at Blue Bell in Columbia City until her marriage to John H. Miller on June 26, 1940.
Her memberships include the Blue River Church of the Brethren, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, organist, and church camp counselor. She enjoyed knitting, working in the yard flower gardening. She also had volunteered at the Whitley County Hospital.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Bob Green of LaOtto; a brother Roger Egolf of Fort Wayne; a sister Beatrice Leitch of Churubusco; and grandchildren, Richard “Rick” (Paula) Green of Churubusco, Anita (Scot) Green-Martin of LaOtto, and Matthew (Kim) Green of Avilla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, on October 25, 1971; a daughter, Jeanette I. Miller in 1958; three sisters Elizabeth Orcutt, Mary Jo Kennedy and Corrine Carig; and by a brother, Norman Egolf.
Funeral services were held Tuesday July 7, 2009 at Blue River Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Craig Alan Myers officiating. Burial followed in the Christian Chapel Cemetery in Merriam.
