Viola M. Gevers, 88, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Lutheran Homes Inc., Fort Wayne. 
Born on January 5, 1921, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of James E. and Maude (Denner) Clifford.
She graduated with the Class of 1939 from the Arcola High School, Arcola. On November 29, 1941, she was united in marriage to Edmund "Ed" Herman Gevers in the Soest Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne.
A resident of Arcola from 1952 until her husband passed away in 1997, she then moved to Fort Wayne. A devoted wife, mother and homemaker, she was a member of Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Allen County.
Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca A. (C. Dean) Williams of Crestview, Florida, and Shelley R. (Terry) Lamb of SanTee, South Carolina; a son, Duane R. Gevers of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Phillip Williams of Bay Minette, Alabama, Corey (Michelle) Williams of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Christa (Sean) Martin of Columbia City and Joshua (Heather) LaRue of Oswego, New York; 2 great-granddaughters, 2 step-grandsons, 2 step-great-granddaughters, 1 step great-grandson; sister, Juanita Masters of Lagrange.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Oscar, Harry, Donald and James Clifford and sisters, Laura Felger and Eva Bierman.
Visitation is Friday, July 10, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home in Columbia City. Funeral service is Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 11 a.m. with one hour of calling prior to service at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 6318 W California Road , Fort Wayne, with Pastor Bill Mueller officiating. Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Gevers to Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
