Dana L. “Dan” Davis, 76, of Fort Wayne, died at 8:48 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at the Hospice Home. 
He was born November 17, 1932, in Silver Lake, Indiana, a son of Rupert and Olive (Amiss) Davis. As a young boy, his family moved to Columbia City. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1950.
On March 12, 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged March 15, 1961.
On January 8, 1966, he was united in marriage to Sharlene A. Rider. They made their home in Columbia City until 1973 when they moved to Fort Wayne.
He began his employment with the Department of Defense in October 1961. He later started working for GTE and retired in December 1992 from Verizon with 25 years of service.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Sharlene; two sons, Bill Davis of Fort Wayne and Mathew (Tricia) Davis of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Alex Davis, Logan, Emily & Ashley Davis; and two step-grandchildren, Garamy & Sam Whitmore.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Norman Davis.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation from Noon to 2 p.m. Monday.
The burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake with military honors presented by a United States Army detail.
