John A. Penn, 59, of New Haven, died at 9:27 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Parkview Hospital.
He was born November 14, 1949, in Wabash, Indiana a son of Richard D. and Doris E. (Gilbert) Penn. His formative years were spent in North Manchester and Churubusco. He attended Churubusco High School.
In August 1969, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. A gunny sergeant, he was discharged November 13, 1993.
He was a member of American Legion Post #330 and V.F.W. Post #2457, both of New Haven and was actively involved with Toys for Tots.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Bobbi (Joe) Amore, Candus R. Penn and Karen L. Penn, all of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren; a mother, Doris Krider of Kimmell; a brother, Rick (Linda) Krider of Ligonier; and three sisters, Phyllis (Doug) Herendeen of Churubusco, Linda Penn of Pennsylvania and Pamela Taflinger of Garrett.
He was preceded in death by his father and his step father, Ronald Krider.
The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
