Lillian Eberhart, 96, formerly of South Whitley, died at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at Timbercrest Home, North Manchester where she had been a resident since September 12, 2006.
She was born January 27, 1913, near Fairmont, Indiana, a daughter of Lestie and Mary (Davis) Stansberry. As a young girl, her family moved to Lincolnville. She graduated from Lincolnville High School and continued her education at Taylor University.
On June 6, 1936, she was united in marriage to Wallace D. Eberhart. They made their home on a farm south of South Whitley before residing in Luther, where they owned & operated the Luther Store for three years. They returned to the farm before moving into South Whitley in October 1955. Mr. Eberhart died May 18, 1983.
She was employed at Montgomery Wards service department for 14 years and Farmer’s Elevator for 14 years.
Her memberships included South Whitley United Methodist Church, Pi Beta Club and United Women’s Fellowship.
Surviving relatives include a son and a daughter, James R. (Jeanette) Eberhart and Joan R. Eberhart; three grandchildren, Debra (Rex) Wilkinson, Dennis (Cheryl) Eberhart and Dianne (Danny) Amburgy, all of South Whitley; eight great-grandchildren, Rita Rogers, Lisa Engle, Randy Wilkinson, Julie Wilkinson, Christopher Amburgy, Ashley Eberhart, Tara Eberhart and Tyson Crain; and three great-great-grandchildren, Ryan Amburgy, Lauren Been and Ansley Crain.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Stansberry and two sisters, Geneva Dyson and Uvah Creamer.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at South Whitley United Methodist Church, 6685 W State Road 14 with one hour of visitation at the church before the service. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
