Netha A. Walter, 86, of Whitley County, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2009 at the home of a daughter, Beverly Hatfield.
She was born February 1, 1923, in Whitley County, a daughter of Harley and Olive DeWitt Martz. Her formative years were spent in Whitley County.
On February 9, 1940, she was united in marriage to Arthur William Walter. They resided in Whitley County, later moving to Huntington. Mr. Walter died July 22, 2009.
She was employed at Chamberlin Products in South Whitley for many years and was a rural deliverer for The Post & Mail for over 10 years.
Surviving relatives include nine children, Beverly Hatfield, Carol (Walter) Rowland, Margaret (C. David) Kilgore and James (Elizabeth) Walter, all of Columbia City, Stephen Walter of Texas, Gary Walter of Columbia City, Randall (Kim) Walter of Gas City, Franklin Walter of South Whitley and Tina (Joseph) Kocher of Huntington; 27 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and 15 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Walter; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral service was held Saturday, December 19, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial was in South Whitley Cemetery.
