Virginia J. Duley, 86, of Larwill, died at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at The Oaks Living Center where she had been a resident since November 20, 2009.
She was born January 21, 1923, in Hammond, Indiana, a daughter of Gordie Henderson and Martha (Whitman) Cauble. She graduated from Hammond High School and nursing school.
On August 9, 1944, she enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as pharmacist’s mate second class. She was honorably discharged July 18, 1946.
On May 22, 1948, she was united in marriage to Charles R. Duley. They made their home in the Calumet area. Following the death of Mr. Duley on August 23, 1998, she moved to Fort Wayne. Since the Spring of 2004, she has resided in Larwill.
She had been attending New Hope Wesleyan Church.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Cheryl (Don) Lecea of Hammond, Sandra (Dan) DeWald of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and Charlotte (Tony) Lytle of Larwill; nine grandchildren, David (Shawna Lecea, Keith Lecea, Paul Lecea, Katie (Brian) Critchfield, Jon DeWald, Erika DeWald, Anthony (Agnes) Lytle II, Ginnie (Jeremy) Galentine and Chase Lytle; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Junior Cauble and a sister, Phyllis Spinks.
The memorial service was held Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home.
