Phil D. Kramer, 74

Phil D. Kramer, 74, local contractor, died at 5:54 pm Friday, March 26, 2009.  Mr. Kramer collapsed after getting out of his truck following a two vehicle accident near the intersection of U.S. 30 and State Road 9 Friday evening.
He was a lifetime resident of Columbia City and was born on December 21, 1935, a son of Alvin “Abe” and Mildred LaFever Kramer.  He completed his education in the Columbia City High School.
He was employed by the Transport Motor Express Company,  then for Dale Johnson’s Columbia Home Improvement Company for many years and then a self employed contractor.
Mr. Kramer was first married to Jeanette L. Harding Addison and later to Carolyn Rosen VanHouten.
He was a member of the Columbia City Eagles Lodge and he enjoyed playing cards with his friends and fishing.
The surviving children are, Robert (Jane) Addison, Payne, Ohio, Kellie J. King, Christine (Kim) Jenkins, Alan VanHouten all of Columbia City and John Kramer, Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a brother, Gerald “Joe” (Diana) Kramer, Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark A. Kramer; a great grand daughter, Elizabeth Jenkins, brothers, Stanley and Jack Kramer and a sister, Joan Rinehart.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 7 pm Wednesday in the Smith and Sons Funeral Home.  The visitation will be one hour before the service.  The burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery at a later date.
For those who wish, memorials may be made to his final expense fund at the funeral home.
