Elizabeth Eileene Smith, 80
Elizabeth Eileene Smith, 80, of rural Columbia City died at 12:31 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at her home. She had been battling cancer since late 2007.
She was born November 14, 1929, in Aurora, Indiana, a daughter of Wonder Canada and Sarah Elizabeth (Bennett) Brooks. Her formative years were spent in Aurora. She graduated from Aurora High School with the Class of 1946. She then attended Burroughs Business School in Cincinnati.
Following her graduation, she was employed by United Airlines in Chicago. On April 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to John Garretson Smith. They made their first home in California, then moving throughout the United States until 1956 when they moved to Fort Wayne. In 1982, they moved to their home north of Columbia City. Mr. Smith died August 19, 2007.
A full-time homemaker, she also served as a teacher’s aid at Southwick Elementary School, Fort Wayne.
Her many memberships included Southmore Singers and the Fort Wayne Hobby Guild.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Cynthia Ann Smith; and a son, David B. (Karen) Smith all of Columbia City.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Eugene and Joseph Brooks.
The funeral service was held at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial was in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
