Helen O’Lily Fry, 97
Helen O’Lily Fry, 97, of Columbia City, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 at The Oaks Living Center where she had been a resident since March 26.
A native of Troy Township, she was born October 10, 1912 in Troy Township, Whitley County a daughter of Edwin B. and Blanche D. (Myers) Cornelius. She lived on farms in Etna Troy and Thorncreek Townships all her life except five years on a farm in Sycamore, Illinois. Helen attended Troy and Etna Schools, and graduated from Columbia City High School.
On April 16, 1933 she was united in marriage to Robert A. Fry. Following the death of Mr. Fry on October 17, 1969, Helen chose to work 24 years as a cook at Whitley County Memorial Hospital, retiring at the age of 83.
Her memberships included West Point Trinity United Methodist Church, the Friendly Neighbors Aid and the Lake View Club.
Surviving relatives include two children, Phil (Kathleen) Fry of Columbia City and Carol (Chuck) Jones of Holland, Michigan; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, Roger Fry.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Willadene Hill; a brother, Walter; and an infant sister.
The funeral service was held at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial was in Thorn Cemetery, Ormas.
Preferred memorials are to West Point Trinity United Methodist Church.
