Ray C. Esterline, 91
Ray C. Esterline, 91, of Loon Lake, died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at his home.
He was born September 14, 1918 in Aboite Township, Allen County a son of Albert and Lieurana Alice (Ambler) Esterline. His formative years were spent in Aboite Township where he was educated in the Cory School.
During World War II, he served in the United States Army.
On November 18, 1961 he was united in marriage to Judy M. Poffenberger. They made their home in Aboite Township until 1971 when they moved to their present home at Loon Lake.
His employment included Grace Construction and later Inland Chemical which later became VanWaters & Rogers, from which he retired in 1981 with 25 years of service.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Judy; three children, John (Jean) Esterline and Linda Archer, both of Columbia City and David (Bobbie) Turner of Warsaw; eight grandchildren, Mindy, Krystal, Scott, Sarah, Amanda, Josh, Dakato and Ryne; and two great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Robert, Walter, Ralph, Marion, Clifford and Ross; two sisters, Blanche Huss and Alice Linton; and a son-in-law, Timothy Archer.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Thorn Cemetery, Ormas. The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
