John Frank Ellis, 76

John Frank Ellis, 76, of Columbia City, died at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at The Oaks Living Center where he had been a resident since March 2008.
He was born December 15, 1933 in Tippecanoe Township, Marshall County, Indiana the youngest of five children born to John Linus and Mary (Atha) Ellis. He grew up in Tippecanoe and Wabash County where he started school in Urbana until the family moved to a farm in Whitley County. He finished first grade at Larwill and graduated there in 1951. He worked on the family farm and enlisted in the Army, where he spent 14 months in Karlruhe, Germany.
On April 14, 1957 he married Delores L. Moore. They made their home in Whitley County. Mrs. Ellis died July 31, 2000.
He drove truck for several years and was a newspaper carrier for many years.
Surviving relatives include a sister, Eudora Blanchard of Indianapolis and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Linus Ellis Jr. and Marion A. Ellis and a sister, Eunice Ditton.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The committal service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Walnut Grove Cemetery, west of Tippecanoe.
Preferred memorials are to Heartland Hospice.
