Richard E. “Pick” Pequignot, 83

Richard E. “Pick” Pequignot, 83, of Big Lake, died at 5:40 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City where he had been a resident since March 2010.
He was born August 12, 1926 in Roanoke, Indiana a son of Clarence and Mildred I. (Smith) Pequignot. As a teenager, his family moved to Fort Wayne from Roanoke. He attended Nebraska School and completed his education at Central High School, Fort Wayne.
In December 1944 he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged January 24, 1946.
On April 17, 1948 he was united in marriage to Irene I. Grover. They made their home in Roanoke and Fort Wayne before moving to their present home in 1962.
A truck driver for nearly 40 years, he retired in August 1982 from Indian Head Truck Line, Fort Wayne.
His memberships included V.F.W. Post #5582 and Eagles #1906.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Irene; a daughter and two sons, Kathleen J. (John) VanHouten, Donald E. (Cheryl) Pequignot and Danny L. Pequignot, all of Columbia City; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a brother, Ronald (Debra) Pequignot of Fort Wayne; and a sister, Kay Ann (John) Zion of Angola.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine and a sister, Donna Sue Pratt.
There will be no visitation or service.
Arrangements are by Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
