Wilda Ruth Ernst, 84
Wilda Ruth Ernst, 84, a resident of rural Columbia City passed away surrounded by family, on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 11:40 a.m. in Parkview Hospital Main in Fort Wayne.
She was born April 20, 1926 in Whitley County, Indiana a daughter of Solomon and Blanche (Worrick) Mantle. She spent her formative years in Washington Twp and graduated from Washington High School.
In December 1946 Wilda was united in marriage to Clyde E. (John) Ernst. Throughout their married life they have lived in Whitley County. John died January 4, 1999 after 53 years of marriage.
Her employment history includes, 16 years at United Technologies and in food service at Coesse School.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Patricia Anne (Phil) Carpenter, Columbia City; three sons, Rich E. (Vickie) Ernst, Fort Wayne; John Robert Ernst, Columbia City, and Jan Lynn Ernst, Churubusco; two brothers, Harley E. Mantle, Kendallville and Roger L. Mantle; Herrinon, Utah; ten grandchildren, Amy (Corey) Reust, Columbia City; Shawn (Tracey) Rice, Fort Wayne, Jamin (Jasmin) Ernst, Fort Wayne, Justin (Heather) Ernst, Fort Wayne, Jared (Kelley) Ernst, Spurger, Texas, Jana ( Nick) Leitch, Churubusco, Heather Williams, Warsaw, Ryan Carpenter, Columbia City, Neil (fiancée Deanna Wagner), Carpenter, Columbia City and Adam (Lasha) Carpenter, Fort Wayne. Wilda has eight great grandchildren including Silas, Destiny, Faith, Kayla, Brook, Jensen, Blake and Shelby, plus a large and loving extended family.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Bernardin and Lola Briggs; and two brothers, Robert Mantle and Glenn Mantle.
In consideration for traveling family members, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 28. Everyone is invited to share in the memorial of her life at the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 500 N. Oak Street, Columbia City at 7 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Donor’s choice.
