Wilma I. Pontzius, 95

Wilma I. Pontzius, 95, of Columbia City, died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at The Oaks Living Center where she had been a resident for the past five years.
She was born January 27, 1915 in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County a daughter of Charles E. and Florence (Helfrich) Pontzius. A lifelong Whitley County resident, she graduated from Columbia City High School in 1932.
From 1944 until 1946, during World War II, she joined the Hospital Corp. of the United States Navy. She rejoined from 1950 until 1952, serving during the Korean War.
She was employed at Columbia Woolen Mill and Linvill Hospital.
Her memberships included First Baptist Church, American Legion Post #98 and its Auxiliary.
Surviving relatives include several nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Pontzius and a sister, Elizabeth Hessler.
The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The burial will be in Nolt Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
