Patricia Ann Slagal, 68

Patricia Ann Slagal, 68, of Columbia City, died Monday, November 8, 2010 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne where she was admitted on Saturday.
She was born December 2, 1941 in Fort Wayne a daughter of Lorane H. and Ruth Frances (Harroff) Carter. Her formative years were spent in Fort Wayne. She graduated from Central High School with the class of 1960.
On August 15, 1964 she was united in marriage to Gary Lee Slagal. They made their home in Fort Wayne, later moving to Tri-Lakes to pursue her passion of breeding and raising miniature dachshunds.
She established a professional kennel where she bred and raised over 50 miniature and 4 standard Champions. She excelled in Dachshunds category of mini wires. A board member of the American Kennel Club, she was also the Director of the National Miniature Dachshunds Club. For over twenty years she served as the Chair of NMDC Ways and Means Committee. Recognize as a top breeder, she had over 150 Best of Variety Wins. As a professional handler, she finished over 100 miniature dachshund champions. She devoted most of her life to the betterment of the breed.
She is survived by two daughters, Jodi ( Joseph) Schaefer of Columbia City and Jami Davis of North Manchester; four grandchildren, Jennifer Schaefer, Aleisha Davis, Anna Davis and James Davis; one sister, Betty Thompson of Fort Wayne.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Mary Louise Osborn.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. David Overmyer officiating. Interment will be in St. Matthews Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
