Mary L. Barnes, 90
Mary L. Barnes, 90, formerly of rural Columbia City, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Parkview Main, Fort Wayne.
She was born April 29, 1920 in Wheatland, Indiana a daughter of Daniel and Daisy (Perigo) Gallagher. She spent her formative years in Union Twp., Whitley County and graduated from Coesse High School.
From 1962-1972, she was employed by Sears, Fort Wayne and then L.S. Ayres until 1980 when she joined Hudson’s/ Marshall Fields until her retirement in 1995.
She was a resident of Whitley County until 1981, then moved to Fort Wayne.
She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Coesse.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Barnes-Morton, Fort Wayne; two sons, Larry (Connie) Barnes, Greensburg, IN and Mike (Carol) Barnes of Bluffton, South Carolina; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Martin, Leo, Charlie Gallagher and Ralph Conet and a sister, Margaret Reehling.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Judith Follis of Hope Lutheran Church officiating. The burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Hope Lutheran Church.
