Noah Richard Mallane, infant

Noah Richard Mallane, infant son, of Ian Michael and Victoria Lynne (Parris) Mallane was stillborn at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Dupont Hospital, Fort Wayne. 
Survivors include his parents of Columbia City; sister, Brittni Benjamin of Sayre, PA; brother, Micah Mallane of Columbia City; paternal grandmother, Misti Harris of Salinas, CA; paternal grandfather, Michael Mallane of Lancaster, CA; maternal grandmother, Susan Mitchell of Hinesville, Ga; paternal great-grandmother, Anita Harris of Columbia City; paternal great-grandmother, Vera Mallane of Columbia City; several aunts and uncles and several cousins.
Noah was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harry Harris and Philip Mallane II and maternal grandparents, Roderick and Loana Cheeney.

Lenora O. Mowrey, 85

Lenora O. Mowrey, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Community Hospital North, Indianapolis.  
Born October 29, 1925 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Arthur Howard and Elva Ernestine (Wirsching) Wigent.
At age 6, she moved to Whitley County where she graduated valedictorian from Coesse School. On February 22, 1946, she married Lyle LaMar Mowrey at Oak Grove Church of God, Columbia City.  A homemaker, she resided in Indianapolis since 1970.  She enjoyed sewing and furniture refinishing.  Her memberships include Garden Club, Quilt Guild and Marion County Farm Bureau.  She was active in her church, McCordsville United Methodist Church.  She did missionary work with the First Church of the Nazarene in Indianapolis, including trips to Central America.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen A. (Timothy) Schultz of Brookston;  son, Cris A. (Jean) Mowrey of Wilmington, NC; sister, Betty (Tom) Douglas of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Dori (Rob) Allen of Frankfort, Shane Schultz of Angola, Rachel (Tom) Thowe of McCordsville, Daniel Mowrey of Raleigh, NC and Emily (Nate) Bradley of Williamsburg, VA; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Allen of Frankfort, Wyatt, Cooper and Duane Bradley of Williamsburg, VA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on March 10, 1997 and infant daughter, Kieta Jo.
Funeral service is Friday, April 1, 2011 at 2 p.m. at McCordsville United Methodist Church, McCordsville, IN.  Graveside service will be Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Union Township Cemetery, Coesse. Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Mowrey to McCordsville United Methodist Church.

Edith J. Beard, 99

Edith J. Beard, 99, of Columbia City, died at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor where she had been a resident since April 2005.
She was born November 26, 1911 in Whitley County, Indiana a daughter of William R. and Elsie (Fisher) Hively. Her formative years were spent in Thorncreek Township where she attended the Hoops School. She completed her education at Columbia City High School.
On September 29, 1928 she was united in marriage to Alva C. Beard. They made their home in Larwill until 1942 when they moved to Columbia City. Mr. Beard died February 12, 1982.
She was employed at Blue Bell, Jones Bakery, Whitley County Memorial Hospital as a cook and served as an Avon Representative.
Her memberships include Columbia City United Methodist Church.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Philip (Jessie) Beard of Columbia City and Thomas (Lynn) Beard of Spooner WI; five grandchildren, Michael (Karen) Beard, Brenda (Abbey) Gross, Douglas (Beth) Beard, Timothy (Cindy) Beard and Tawnya (Scott) Kieffer; 13 great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Walter Hively, Clarence Hively, Irvin Hively, Void Hively, Grace VanVoorst and Alton Hively.
The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery. The visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Bradley Joseph Haugen, 36

Bradley Joseph Haugen, 36, of Fort Wayne, died at 4:03 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Parkview North Hospital.
He was born February 4, 1975 in Greenfield, Indiana a son of James Allen and Darleen K. (Nahrwold) Haugen. From 1975 until 1981 he resided in New Haven and from 1981 until 1991 he resided in Portland, Oregon. In 1991 he moved to Columbia City until moving to the Bethesda Lutheran Ministry Home in Fort Wayne a year ago. He graduated from Huntington North High School.
He had been employed at Passages and later Anthony Wayne Services in Fort Wayne.
A member of Living Water Lutheran Church in Wolf Lake, he attended Lutheran Disabilities Friendship Class and activities at the Praise Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.
Surviving relatives include his parents, Pastor James and Darleen Haugen of Columbia City; two brothers, Rev. James (Jennifer) Haugen Jr. of Strongsville OH and Rev. Joshua (Mary) Haugen of Greensboro NC; and four nephews, James Haugen III, Noah Haugen, Caleb Haugen, and Adam Haugen.
The celebration of BradÂ’s life service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, 101 East North Street, Columbia City with visitation one hour prior to service. The burial will be in Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery, New Haven. The visitation will also be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.

Mary Jane McLaughlin, 94

Mary Jane McLaughlin, 94, formerly of Union Township, died Friday, March 25, 2011 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
She was born September 7, 1916 in Fayette Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan a daughter of James Harvey and Mayme (Bird) Price. Her formative years were spent in the Jonesville area. She graduated from Jonesville High School.
On December 9, 1936 she was united in marriage to Robert Foster McLaughlin. They made their home in Antwerp, Ohio until the early 1940s when they moved to Fort Wayne. In 1951 they moved to Union Township, Whitley County. In 1994 they began wintering in Mesa, Arizona until May 2008 when they moved to Friendship Village in Kalamazoo, their year round home.
A homemaker, during World War II she worked at Aircraft Gear.
Her memberships included Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star in Fort Wayne and Rebekah Lodge in Laud.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Bob; two daughters, Rebecca S. (Dennis) Pence of Kalamazoo MI and Cynthia A. (James) Miller of Scottsdale AZ; four grandchildren, Adam Pence, Lauren Miller, Jordan Miller Logan and Lindsay Miller Fox; five siblings, Lucille Snyder of Quincy MI, Sally Leslie of Hicksville OH, Gerry Bowditch of Jackson MI, Frank Price of Fremont MI and Elinor Spurloch of Quincy MI.
She was preceded in death by 14 siblings.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The burial will be in Jefferson Chapel Cemetery.

Rex E. Grable, 82

Rex E. Grable, 82, of rural Columbia City, died at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at his home.
He was born January 23, 1929 in Churubusco, Indiana a son of Clarence T. and Bertha O. (Meyers) Grable. At the age of four, his family moved to Columbia City. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1947.
On August 3, 1947 he was united in marriage to Eleanor J. Tanner. They made their home in Columbia City until 1988 when they moved to Troy Cedar Lake. Since October 2010 they have made their home east of Columbia City.
He was employed at Dana Corp. for eight years, owned and operated Grable's Sinclair Station from 1954 until 1959, operated the garage for Kitson Dairy for five years, worked for Paul Hunckler for eight years, owned and operated Rex Grable Assoc. from 1970s until 1990s, owned and operated Dues Restaurant for eight years and retired in 1999 from Columbia City Post Office with 15 years of service.
His memberships include Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #98 and Columbia City Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks #1417.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Eleanor; two children, Dennis E. Grable of Columbia City and Becky Lee Simons of Grant MI; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Ted T. Grable of Columbia City; and a sister, Connie Rohrbach of Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Gay Feist.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Anthony Edward Martelli, 33

Anthony Edward Martelli, 33, of Columbia City passed away unexpectedly on Monday March 21, 2011 at his home.
He was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, on September 18, 1977, to Neil and Linda (Monroe) Martelli. He was raised in Springfield, Mass. He became an auto mechanic working in various shops in Springfield. In 2007, he moved to Columbia City and was a self employed mechanic.
Surviving family include his fiance, Tanya Boehly, son Julian Anthony; mother, Linda (Munroe) Martelli of Ware, Mass; father, Neil (Brenda) Martelli of Springfield, Mass; sisters: Traci (Michael) Connors of Longmeadow, Mass Victoria (Carl) Makuch of Springfield, Mass, Nicole Martelli and partner John Connor of Ware, Mass and Angelina (Mark) Moran of Ludlow, Mass.

Patricia L. LaFevor, 65

Patricia L. LaFevor, 65, of rural South Whitley, died at 10:20 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne where she was admitted on March 12th.
She was born July 26, 1945 in Fort Wayne, Indiana a daughter of Robert J. and Ellen S. (Fearnow) Gebhart. Her formative years were spent in Fort Wayne. She graduated from Central Catholic High School.
On September 14, 1968 she was united in marriage to Roger L. LaFevor. They made their home in Fort Wayne until 1974 when they moved to rural South Whitley. Mr. LaFevor died March 22, 2008.
Surviving relatives include two children, Doug (Marnie) LaFevor of Mitchell and Christina (Albert) Donato of Fortville; four grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Werstler of Huntington.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Robbins.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. There will be no service.

Wesley L. Smith, 25, a Columbia City native, died Thursday, March 24, 2011.
He was born November 27, 1985 in Fort Wayne, Indiana a son of Duane A. and Diana E. (Clark) Smith. His formative years were spent in rural Columbia City. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 2004.
He joined the United States Army where he served in Iraq, Indianapolis and most recently El Paso, Texas.
On February 26, 2010 he was united in marriage to Caroline M. Cripe.
In January 2011 he began his employment at Micropulse.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Caroline; his parents, Duane & Diana Smith of Columbia City; his in-laws, Les & Jane Cripe of South Whitley; six siblings, Rita Shank of Indianapolis, Kevin Smith of Michigan, Sara Sawyer of Columbia City, Elizabeth Smukal of Michigan, Janette Bachelder of Columbia City and Craig Smith of Columbia City; a brother-in-law, Todd Cripe of Fort Hood, Texas; and grandmother, Maxine Overholser of Columbia City.

Geraldine "Jeri" Robinette, 87

Geraldine "Jeri" Robinette, 87, of Columbia City, died early Wednesday morning, March 23, 2011 in Naples, Florida.
She was born June 24, 1923 in Wabash County, Indiana a daughter of George W. and Marie (Grimm) Garrison. At the age of six, her family moved to Huntington County. She graduated from Bippus High School. In 1942 she moved to Fort Wayne.
On June 22, 1946 she was united in marriage to Joe A. Auker. They made their home in South Whitley. Dr. Auker died February 1, 1979.
She assisted her husband in the operations of J.A. Auker Veterinary Hospital for nearly 30 years.
On June 14, 1980 she was united in marriage to Harold R. Robinette. In 1987 they moved to Big Cedar Lake. Mr. Robinette died August 21, 2004.
Since 1976 Jeri has been spending her winters in Naples, Florida.
She was a member of South Whitley United Methodist Church and attended The Celebration Church in Naples, Florida.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Ray R. (Jeannie) Auker of North Webster and Marvin L. (Marc Houser) Auker of Fort Wayne; a step son, Roger L. (Barbara) Robinette of Greenwood SC; a step daughter, Sharon K. (Ron) Miller of Bucyrus OH; a daughter-in-law, Judy Auker of South Whitley; six grandchildren, Michelle Harter, Brett (Nikki) Harter, Erica (Will Hill) Auker, Amy (John) Hicks, Melissa (Adam) Craig and Makayla (Eric) Solis; eight great grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Jay R. Auker and two sisters, Ninamae Ziegler and Betty Jane Miller Hite.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Helen J. Heinley, 94

Helen J. Heinley, 94, of rural Columbia City died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at The Oaks, Columbia City where she had been a resident since August 2010.
She was born October 27, 1916 in Thorncreek Twp., Whitley County, Indiana a daughter of the late Jesse and Florence (Miller) Jackson. Her formative years were spent in Thorncreek Twp. She graduated from Washington Center High School and then International Business College, Fort Wayne.
Following her graduation, she took a job with a stock brokerage firm in Fort Wayne.
On June 25, 1938 was she united in marriage to William Elmer Heinley. They made their home for the past 72 years on a farm south of Columbia City. In addition to a homemaker, she was employed by the former Frank’s Greenhouse in sales and floral design.
She was a member of Eberhard Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid, Evening Bells, Walnut Corner Club, Beaver Euchre Club and the Whitley County Art Gild. Among her many talents were award winning cross stitch and oil paintings.
Surviving relatives include her husband of 72 years, William Elmer Heinley, a daughter, Sandra (Roger) Holler of Muncie; two grandchildren, Julie (Vic) Steiner and Greg (Kim) Holler and three great grandchildren, Jennifer Steiner, Zach Holler and Mallory Holler.
She was preceded in death by a sister Betty Robbins.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Alice Smith officiating. Burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Julia Corinne Bain, 67

Julia Corinne Bain, 67, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.
Born January 23, 1944 in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Carl F. and Dorothy E. (Conner) Hess.
Raised in Whitley County, she was a ten year member of Whitley County 4-H and the Jr. Mizpah Shrine organization.  She graduated with the Class of 1962 from Columbia City High School.  She attended Purdue University for two years and graduated from Patricia Stevens College.  On September 2, 1967 she married Ralph D. Bain at Hope Lutheran Church, Coesse.  For six years, she worked for Sears, Indianapolis and Cedar Rapids, IA.  For 34 years from 1971-2005, she assisted her husband at Bain's Packing and Pleasant Knoll Tree Farm, both of Howell, MI.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph D. Bain; sisters, Carlene S. (Lynn) Weirick and Darlene Lue Shrider all of Columbia City; two nephews and one niece.  She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation is Friday, March 25, 2011 from 3-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.  Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Hope Lutheran "Coesse" Cemetery, Coesse.

Kurt Matthew Rigsby, Jr., 18, of South Whitley, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 at St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis. 
Born February 1, 1993 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Amanda Marie (Fett) and Kurt M. Rigsby, Sr.
As a young boy he lived in Fort Wayne until age 7 when his family moved to South Whitley.  A January graduate with the Class of 2011 from Whitko High School, he moved to Noblesville in February, 2011.  Before moving to Noblesville, he worked at Carol's Corner, South Whitley, and he currently worked for Wendy's, Inc.
His memberships included Community Bible Church and SADD at Whitko High School.
Survivors include his mother, Amanda M. (Luis Lopez) Rigsby of South Whitley; father, Kurt M. (Timothy Barr) Rigsby, Sr. of Astoria, NY; sister, Adrianna Lopez of South Whitley; brother, Nathaneal Lopez of South Whitley; great-grandmother, Evelyn Andorfer of Columbia City; great-grandparents, Martha and Ned Longardner of Churubusco; partner, Keola Hanohano of Noblesville. 
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Neal D. and Karen A. Fett, and Sharon K. Rigsby.

Marilynne J. Ramp, 88

Marilynne J. Ramp, 88, of New Haven, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 21, 2011 at Parkview Hospital.
She was born July 21, 1922 in Larwill, Indiana a daughter of John L. and Edythe J. (Whiteleather) Menzie. Her formative years were spent in Larwill and she graduated from Larwill High School.
On September 23, 1942 she married the love of her life, George J. "Jack" Ramp. Following his discharge from the Army Air Corps, they made their home in Larwill for a short time before moving to Fort Wayne and later New Haven. Mr. Ramp died April 20, 1979. In 1986 she moved to Palmetto, Florida until returning to New Haven in 2007.
She was a member of Palmetto United Methodist Church, volunteered at its Thrift Shop and Clan Menzie Society.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Jacqueline (Allen) Plasterer of New Haven, Rebecca (Timothy) Johnson of Indianapolis and Sarah (Donald) Smith of New Haven; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce Cleland of Pierceton.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson; brother, Lester Menzie; and a sister, Virginia Finch.
The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery, Larwill.

Rosalie Armstrong, 74

Rosalie Armstrong, 74, a resident of Columbia City, died Sunday evening in the Lutheran Hospital where she had been a patient since Friday.
She was born on October 8, 1936 in Miami County, Ohio, near Troy, a daughter of Paul and Mildred Brown Williams. Her formative years were spent on the family dairy farm and she graduated from the Miami Central High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana Central College and her masters degree in business from Ball State University.
On June 9, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald L. Armstrong and they made their home in Bremen where he taught and coached football. She taught high school for one year and grade school for a year while in Bremen. Then they moved to Boyleston, Indiana where Mr. Armstrong taught and coached football. In 1965, they moved to Columbia City and in 1967, she started teaching in the business department at the Columbia City High School retiring in 1993. Later she worked in the office at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home for fourteen years.
A member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Rosalie was very involved in her church and community, the result of her being named Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year for United Way of Whitley County.
Her greatest enjoyments were her family, her students and volunteering to help others.
An only child, she is survived by her husband, Don; a son, Scott (Karen) Armstrong, Fort Wayne; a daughter, Theresa Curry, Columbia City; and two grandsons, Matthew and Joshua Curry.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm Saturday at the Columbia City High School auditorium, followed by a Celebration of Life reception until 5 pm at the school. Burial will be at a later date.

Rosalie H. Armstrong, 74

Rosalie H. Armstrong, 74, a resident of Columbia City, died Sunday evening in the Lutheran Hospital where she had been a patient since Friday.
She was born on October 8, 1936 in Miami County, Ohio, near Troy, a daughter of Paul and Mildred Brown Williams. Her formative years were spent on the family dairy farm and she graduated from the Miami Central High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana Central College and her masters degree in business from Ball State University.
On June 9, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald L. Armstrong and they made their home in Bremen where he taught and coached football. She taught high school for one year and grade school for a year while in Bremen. Then they moved to Boyleston, Indiana, where Mr. Armstrong taught and coached football. In 1965, they moved to Columbia City and in 1967, she started teaching in the business department at the Columbia City High School retiring in 1993. Later, she worked in the office at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home for fourteen years.
A member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Rosalie was very involved in her church and community. As a result, she was named Columbia City Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year for United Way of Whitley County.
Her greatest enjoyments were her family, her students and volunteering to help others.
An only child, she is survived by her husband, Don; a son, Scott (Karen) Armstrong, Fort Wayne; a daughter, Theresa Curry, Columbia City; and two grandsons, Matthew and Joshua Curry.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Columbia City High School auditorium, followed by a Celebration of Life reception until 5 p.m. at the school. Burial will be at a later date.

Norma L. Mauzy, 77, formerly of Lake Township, Allen County, died Saturday evening, March 19, 2011 at Covington Manor where she had been a resident since October 2009. Norma L. Mauzy, 77, formerly of Lake Township, Allen County, died Saturday evening, March 19, 2011 at Covington Manor where she had been a resident since October 2009.

Thomas C. Jarvis, Sr., 76, of Columbia City, IN died at 10:55 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Parkview Whitley Hospital. He was born in Olive Hill, Hazard County, KY, on April 13, 1934, son of Ralph Herbert and Virginia Agnes (Edson) Jarvis.
He attended Olive Hill Kentucky School moving to Allen County and in 1991 he Whitley County. He married Sue C. Ford on May 23, 1980 at Lake Chapel, Fort Wayne.  He worked at Kroger Warehouse receiving dock, Fort Wayne, for 20 years and Wal-Mart, Columbia City, for 8 years as a friendly greeter.
Survivors include his wife, Sue C. Jarvis of Columbia City; son, Thomas C. Jarvis, Jr. of Columbia City: 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson and 15 brothers and sisters.  He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Christopher Donald A. Jarvis.
Visitation is 2-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011 and from 10-11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Lucas Allen Lang, infant son of Cayala A. Lang and John M. Galligher, died at 6:22 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was born at 5:04 p.m.

Jack E. Fry, 88

Jack E. Fry, 88, of South Whitley, died at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Renaissance Village where he had been a resident since December 2008.
He was born June 15, 1922 in Elwood, Indiana a son of Clifford Clayton and Ida Marinda (Bowers) Fry. His formative years were spent in Osgood and Greensburg areas. He completed his education in Nebraska School in Jennings County.
On November 7, 1942 he was inducted in the United States Army, serving in the South Pacific on the Island of Kwajalean during World War II. He was honorably discharged November 8, 1945.
On October 20, 1946 he was united in marriage to Joanna Landis. They made their home in Richland Township, Whitley County with the exception of a short time in Jennings County. Mrs. Fry has also been a resident at Renaissance Village since December 2008.
He was employed at Blue Bell and engaged in farming for a brief period before driving truck for Stienman Trucking, later Bohren Transport and retired in 1980 from Transport Motors.
His memberships included Oak Grove United Methodist Church and Teamsters Local 414.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Joanna; five children, Jack A. Fry and Jerald E. Fry, both of South Whitley, Jill E. (Rick) Moyer and Julie A. (Tim) Carter, both of North Manchester and Joy E. Fulk of South Whitley; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a great great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Brashars; a grandson; and a great granddaughter.

Russell L. Blaugh, 89

Russell L. Blaugh, 89, of Churubusco, Ind. passed away at 11:08 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at The Oaks, Columbia City.  
Born on October 11, 1921 in Huntington County, Ind., he was the son of Roy and Eugenia (Shearer) Blaugh.              
He moved from Whitley County to Allen County in 1946 and in 1973 moved back to Whitley County.  He graduated from Coesse High School with the Class of 1939.  On May 24, 1941 he married Jeanne Sprouls in Columbia City who preceded him in death on January 9, 1971.  
On January 19, 1973, he married Louise Barnhart-Egolf in Churubusco, Ind.  He worked at Dana Weatherhead in Columbia City as a foreman for 43 years, retiring in 1982.  He also worked as a general farmer.
Survivors include his 4 children, Ron Blaugh of Churubusco, Ind.; Kathy (Lynn) Johnson of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Gary Blaugh of Fort Wayne; Allen Blaugh of San Diego, Cal.; 2 step-daughters, Mary Katherine (Charles) Cummings of Columbia City and Norma L. (Dale) Crabill of Churubusco; 1 step-son, Robert L. (Betty) Egolf of Churubusco; 1 sister, Geraldine Zumbrun of Columbia City; 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Jeanne Blaugh, second wife, Louise Blaugh on December 5, 2004, sisters, Dorothy Tripcony and Marjorie Platschik, brothers, Thomas, Edward, Jack and John Blaugh, infant brothers, Donald and Freddie Blaugh.

Patricia Ann "Patty" Nicodemus, 57

Patricia Ann "Patty" Nicodemus, 57, of Columbia City, Ind., died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.  
Born in Wolf Lake, Ind., May 29, 1953 she was the daughter of Roderick C. and Martha Jane (Friskney) Johnson.
A lifetime Whitley County resident, she graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1971.  On April 21, 1973, she married William D. Nicodemus at Eel River Baptist Church.  
In 1975, she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Special Education from the University of Saint Francis, Fort Wayne.   
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she assisted her husband with their family dairy farm operation.  Very active in the Whitley County 4-H program, her memberships included 4-H Inc. and Indiana/National Holstein Association.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, William "Bill" Nicodemus of Columbia City; children, Anne Nicodemus of South Whitley, Douglas (Jessica) Nicodemus of Columbia City, Jason (Erin) Nicodemus of Columbia City, Andrea (Adam) Starkey of Peru, Patrick Nicodemus of Columbia City, Daryl (Claudette) Nicodemus of Dale, Amanda Nicodemus of Knox, Adam and Andrew Nicodemus both of Columbia City; mother, Martha Jane Johnson of Churubusco; sisters, Mary Lou (Danny) Biddle of Albion and Phyllis (Daniel) Ferguson of Churubusco; brother, William Johnson of Albion and 9 grandchildren.  
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Robert Nicodemus, brothers, Willis and Henry Johnson (infant), grandsons, Trenton Dean and Joshua Corbine Nicodemus.

Geneva E. Myers, 90

Geneva E. Myers, 90, loving mother, grandmother and friend passed away quietly at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 8:25 p.m. She was born September 25, 1920 in Cleveland Township, Whitley County, Indiana to the late Gerald R. and Jennie (Williamson) Lancaster. She spent her formative years in South Whitley and graduated from South Whitley High School. On December 5, 1949 she was united in marriage to Willard “Blackie” Myers. They ran the Mobil service station in South Whitley. Mr. Myers died February 26, 1977. She was employed by the former Gripco for 24 years as an office worker and then Stumps Printing /Shindigz in the accounting department until January of this year. A cherished friend to many, she loved her family. Her many talents included raising flowers, quilting and crocheting afghans. She was a member of United Methodist Church of South Whitley, where she had served on several boards and a past board member of the South Whitley Library. She is survived by a daughter, Judith (Gail) Egolf of Columbia City; a granddaughter, Amanda (Steve) Wells, Westchester, OH; a grandson, Andrew (Shanon) Roberts, Columbia City; four great grandchildren, Nicholas, Anna, Skye and Kendra; four brothers, Robert (Norma) Lancaster, Larry “Butch” (Karen) Lancaster, Richard Lancaster, and Randall (Deanna) Lancaster; two sisters, Joan Stansbery and Kay (Larry) Lepley. Phyllis A. Nelson, 76

Phyllis A. Nelson, 76, a resident of Dunfee, died Wednesday afternoon, March 9, 2011 in the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.
She was born on January 4, 1935 in Arcola, a daughter of Frank and Martha Felger Butts. Her formative years were spent on the family farm near Arcola. After graduating from the Arcola High School, she was first employed as a secretary for the Allen County Extension Office, later was the registrar at the Homestead High School for 32 years.
On June 7, 1957, she was united in marriage to John R. Nelson and they have spent their married life in the Fort Wayne area.
She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church.
The surviving relatives include her husband, John; five children, James Nelson, Fort Wayne, Pamela Parten, Granger, David (Michelle) Nelson, Fort Wayne, Eric (Kelley) Nelson, Fort Wayne, Beth (Chris) Husband of Roanoke; thirteen grandchildren, a great grand daughter and a brother, James Butts, Fort Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Lester, Frank and Charles Butts.
The funeral service will be held at 10 am Monday, March 14, 2011 in the Bethany Lutheran Church, 2435 Engle Road, Rev. Chad Trouten, officiating. Burial will be in the Eel River Cemetery. Mary G. Yeager, 92

Mary G. Yeager, 92, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse IN.
She was born in Columbia City on December 16, 1918 to the late Eldon and Maud (Egner) Barsh. She married Richard L. Yeager May 14, 1938. He preceded her in death on March 31, 2001.
Mary worked 34 years at Gripco in South Whitley, retiring in 1982. She enjoyed her travels to Hawaii, bowling and playing bingo.
She is survived by her three children; Judy (John) Crawford of Zellwood FL, Jane (John) Collins of Elkhart IN and Jim (Cheryl) Yeager of South Whitley; a sister Gwen Barsh of Sarasota FL; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter Joyce Yeager died at birth and a brother Robert Barsh.

Richard V. "RV" Reed, 86

Richard V. "RV" Reed, 86, former Principal of Whitko High School, died at his home in South Whitley at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 09, 2011. He had been in failing health.
He was born October 5, 1924 in South Bend, Indiana a son of Vern W. and Mary (Tyndall) Reed. His formative years were spent in Spencerville and he graduated from St. Joe High School.
On Dec 14, 1942 in enlisted in the US Army and served in the European theater. He was honorable discharged on May 1, 1946
He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture/Chemistry. He completed his Masters of Education degree at Ball State University.
On August 30, 1947, he was united in marriage to Loma Musser. They made their home in Pierceton.
A life long educator, he began his teaching career in 1949 at Pierceton High School teaching agriculture classes and coaching Jr. High basketball and baseball. In 1963, he became the Principal at Pierceton High School and in 1971, the Principal for the newly formed Whitko High School serving in that capacity until 1983. He finished his career as a Science teacher at Whitko until retiring in 1986. He then became the voice of Whitko football and basketball as the announcer at all home games.
He was a member of United Methodist Church of South Whitley, South Whitley Lions Club, Pierceton American Legion, 4-H Leader for 20 years, IHSAA Board of Directors, Future Farmers of America and a founding member of Whitley County EMS in South Whitley.

Surviving include his wife of 63 years, Loma; three sons, Barry (Elaine) Reed, Chapin, SC, Steve (Carol) Reed, South Whitley, Nelson Reed, Tallahassee, FL; three daughters, Jo Ellen (Monte) Wilkinson, Larwill, Teresa (Jeff) Gable, North Manchester, Jill Flory Wagner, Orlando, FL; 21 grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and a sister Carol (Marcel) Pugsley of Florida.
He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Reed.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Whitko High School, South Whitley with the funeral service at 5:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. There will be a private burial at the South Whitley Cemetery. Services are by Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.

Jason Warren Tester, 36

Jason Warren Tester, 36, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at his home.  
Born August 13, 1974 in Columbia City, IN he was the son of Randy Dow and Deborah Sue (Bender) Tester.
He lived in Allen and Whitley Counties graduating from Homestead High School with the Class of 1994.  
An avid cook, he worked at several local restaurants and he loved to hunt and fish in his spare time.  
Survivors include his father, Randy Dow (Sara) Tester of Fort Wayne; brother, Jeremy D. Tester, sister, Jessica Y. Tester, step-brother, Brad M. Pfeiffer and step-sister, Tisha E. (Scott) Richmond all of Columbia City; several nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by his mother, Deborah Sue Tester and grandparents, William and Yvonne Tester, Richard and Winnie Mallott.
Visitation is Friday, March 11, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.  Funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Blanchard officiating. C. Wayne Jenkins, 95

C. Wayne Jenkins, 95, formerly of South Whitley, died at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Engelwood Health and Rehabilitation, Fort Wayne.
He was born September 3, 1915 in South Whitley a son of Ralph and Hope (Keel) Jenkins. He spent his formative years in the Sidney area. He graduated from Sidney High School.
On February 15, 1936, he was united in marriage to Lucile G. Montel. They made their home in Silver Lake for five years and Wabash County for six years before moving to Cleveland Township, Whitley County in 1947. Mrs. Jenkins died February 6, 2008.
Involved in farming most of his work career, in 1952 his became a farm union organizer, in 1954 he started Jenkins Farm Supply. He became a real estate agent for Schrader Real Estate, Columbia City. After receiving his broker license, in 1979 started Wayne Jenkins Real Estate specializing in farm sales.
He was a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren and 9 year Board of Directors Member of the R.E.M.C.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Wanda Lou (David) Wilson of South Whitley; a grandson, Brent (Leslie) Wilson, two great grandsons.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mabel Freed, Mary Jean Rochette and Ruby Mishler and a grandson, Scott Wilson.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Smith & Miller Chapel, South Whitley. There will be a private burial at the South Whitley Cemetery.

Sheila S. West-Wilhelm, 40

Sheila S. West-Wilhelm, 40, of Columbia City, Ind., died on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at her residence.  
She was born on September 13, 1970 to William C. and Rozella M. (Wince) Wicker.
She was a lifetime Columbia City resident and attended Columbia City High School.  She was employed at Home Nursing of Fort Wayne as a Home Health Aid.  On April 8, 2005 she married Neil Wilhelm in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Survivors include her husband, Neil Wilhelm of Columbia City; daughter, Nicole (Kevin) West of Columbia City; son, Jeremy (Hollie Cassidy) West of Columbia City; step-sons, Alan, Brandon and Codie Wilhelm all of Columbia City; parents, William and Rozella Wicker of Columbia City; sisters, Vickie (Steve) Schwenn and Helen Gibson of Columbia City; and brother, Dale (Tracie) Wicker of Columbia City.  She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Goldie Wince and father of her children, Bart West.

Mary J. Shipman, 89

Mary J. Shipman, 89, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 9:45 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.  
Born on September 1, 1921 in Provo, UT, she was the daughter of Frank and Harriett (Richmond) Speckart.
She has been a Columbia City resident since 2009 moving from Florida and a prior resident of Provo, Utah.  She graduated from Provo High School with the Class of 1939 and 2 years at Brigham Young University.  On June 22, 1941, she married Robert L. Shipman in Provo.  She was a secretary with the Provo School Districts, retiring with 20 years of service.  She was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church, Order Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matron, Ladies Oriental Shrine and PTA President of the Elementary High School.
Survivors include her 2 sons, Robert M. Shipman of Salt Lake, UT and Stuart (Bonnie) Shipman of Columbia City; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert L. Shipman, daughter, Carolyn Shipman; brothers and sisters, Frank Speckart, Florence Hettig, Ruth Okeson, Orlene Sutherland and Jess Speckart.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with funeral service immediately following at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jean Ness of Columbia City United Methodist Church, officiating. Robert L. Adams, 93

Robert L. Adams, 93, of Sebring, Florida died on March 3, 2011. He had lived at the Palms of Sebring and was receiving Good Shepherd Hospice Care. He was born in Van Buren Township, Putnam County, Ohio to Virgil & Ruth Adams. The family moved to Indiana in 1927 and Robert graduated from Lapaz High School, Lapaz, Indiana in 1935. He married Mary E. Martin on December 11, 1937. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary just before she died on March 9, 2010. Children surviving are Don (Barbara) Adams of Fort Wayne & Sebring, FL, Pat (Richard) Farmer of Sebring, FL, Ruth (Rick) Peairs of Atascadero, California and Bob (Nancy) Adams of Union, Kentucky. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. Three grandchildren and one great granddaughter are deceased.
Brothers surviving are Clifford & Jim Adams of Plymouth, Indiana. One brother Stuart and an infant sister Gertrude Louise preceded him in death.
Robert worked at Kingsbury Ordinance Plant, Ball Band and Studebakers as well as farmed an 80 acre farm near Tyner, Indiana. In 1950 he sold that farm and bought a 160 acre farm in Columbia City, Indiana. He farmed full time until 1972 when he went to work for the Whitley County Highway Department. The last 4 years he was the Superintendent and he retired at 62. They purchased a home in Sebring in 1979 and sold the farm. For several years they wintered in Florida and summered in Columbia City. He was a member of the ASC board, helped assess property for Thorncreek Township, was on the school board, and a member of the Eagles in Columbia City. He was a volunteer and member of the Sebring Recreational Club and helped to maintain the shuffleboard courts. He loved to play shuffleboard and achieved State Pro status by winning points at many tournaments. He also had a workshop where he made many woodworking projects for his family.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Helen M. Furnas, 81

Helen M. Furnas, 81, formerly of Columbia City, died at 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Peabody Home, North Manchester where she had been a resident since 2002.
She was born August 2, 1929 in Cass County, Michigan a daughter of Floyd and Helen Margaret (Kantz) Adams. Her formative years were spent in Michigan. She graduated from Constantine High School.
On October 22, 1949 she was united in marriage to Lawrence E. Furnas. They made their home in Fort Wayne until 1964 when they moved to rural Columbia City. Mr. Furnas died April 5, 1995.
She retired from Dana Weatherhead, Columbia City with 22 years of service.
Surviving relatives include four children, Dianna L. (Ralph) Shafter of Laotto, Valerie J. (Brian) Menzie of Columbia City, Steven A. (Vicki) Furnas of Wabash and Ross A. (Jodie) Furnas of Larwill; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Frances Mayer of Jones, Michigan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers, Elizabeth Knapp, Ruth Wilson, Maxine Strawser, Rita Churchill, Luther Adams, Robert Adams and George Adams.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. The visitation will be from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

James W. Tomlinson, Sr., 75

James W. Tomlinson, Sr., 75, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away at 8:45 a.m. March 3, 2011, at North Ridge Village Nursing Home, Albion, IN.  Born December 2, 1935 in Allen County, IN, he was the son of Wesley and Amy (Helmes) Tomlinson.
Graduating from Jefferson Center High School with the Class of 1956, he served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1967.  On March 2, 1974 he married Ellen Barbara (Genda) Herendeen.  He worked at Nisson Infinity, Fort Wayne, as a delivery person.  His memberships included American Legion Post #330, New Haven, Gold Wing Road Riders Association and the Fort Wayne Bowling Association.
Survivors include his daughters, Debra (Randy) Dellinger of Columbia City and Shelley (Mark) Mawhorter of Albion; son, Robert Tomlinson of Kendallville; sister, Celia Miller of Fort Wayne; step-sons, Walter (Fran) Herendeen of Angola and John Herendeen of Kendallville; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents and wife, Ellen G. Tomlinson, he was preceded in death by a son, Bill Tomlinson, sister, Amy Jane Suter, and brothers, Edward, John, Wesley & Denzil Tomlinson.
Visitation is Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 2-6 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.  Private family burial at the Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne, with the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard presenting graveside military honors.  Memorial gifts may be given in memory of Mr. Tomlinson to a memorial fund with checks payable to DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Donald Eugene Boner, 72

Donald Eugene Boner, 72, a lifelong Etna Troy Township, Whitley County farmer, died at 10:42 a.m. Sunday, February 27, 2011 in the emergency room of Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was transported after becoming suddenly ill at home.
He was born April 29, 1938 in Warsaw, Indiana a son of Carold W. and Lois L. (Kitson) Boner. He graduated from Larwill High School in 1956 and received a degree in animal science from Purdue University.
On September 26, 1961 he enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged August 31, 1967.
On April 12, 1964 he was united in marriage to Ruth J. DeHabey. They have always made their home on the Boner Family farm.
A dairy and grain farmer, he was very active at the local, state and national levels showing Registered Holstein cattle, winning many awards for top honors.
His memberships included Big Lake Church of God, Whitley County, Indiana and the National Holstein Associations, Whitley County 4-H Inc. where he was a former president of the Advisory Board.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruth; three children, Debra (Rick) Hunt Ott of South Lake TX, Donna (Ken) McDonald of Columbia City and Rick (Melissa) Boner of Merrillville; three grandchildren, Rachel Ott and Lillian & Lucas Boner; and sister, Ruth Ann Shenberger of Maryland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois C. Wilcoxson.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Adams Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
