Phyllis A. Nelson, 76
Phyllis A. Nelson, 76, a resident of Dunfee, died Wednesday afternoon, March 9, 2011 in the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.
She was born on January 4, 1935 in Arcola, a daughter of Frank and Martha Felger Butts. Her formative years were spent on the family farm near Arcola. After graduating from the Arcola High School, she was first employed as a secretary for the Allen County Extension Office, later was the registrar at the Homestead High School for 32 years.
On June 7, 1957, she was united in marriage to John R. Nelson and they have spent their married life in the Fort Wayne area.
She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church.
The surviving relatives include her husband, John; five children, James Nelson, Fort Wayne, Pamela Parten, Granger, David (Michelle) Nelson, Fort Wayne, Eric (Kelley) Nelson, Fort Wayne, Beth (Chris) Husband of Roanoke; thirteen grandchildren, a great grand daughter and a brother, James Butts, Fort Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Lester, Frank and Charles Butts.
The funeral service will be held at 10 am Monday, March 14, 2011 in the Bethany Lutheran Church, 2435 Engle Road, Rev. Chad Trouten, officiating. Burial will be in the Eel River Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 7 pm Sunday at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City and one hour before the service at the church.
