Rex E. Grable, 82

Rex E. Grable, 82, of rural Columbia City, died at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at his home.
He was born January 23, 1929 in Churubusco, Indiana a son of Clarence T. and Bertha O. (Meyers) Grable. At the age of four, his family moved to Columbia City. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1947.
On August 3, 1947 he was united in marriage to Eleanor J. Tanner. They made their home in Columbia City until 1988 when they moved to Troy Cedar Lake. Since October 2010 they have made their home east of Columbia City.
He was employed at Dana Corp. for eight years, owned and operated Grable's Sinclair Station from 1954 until 1959, operated the garage for Kitson Dairy for five years, worked for Paul Hunckler for eight years, owned and operated Rex Grable Assoc. from 1970s until 1990s, owned and operated Dues Restaurant for eight years and retired in 1999 from Columbia City Post Office with 15 years of service.
His memberships include Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #98 and Columbia City Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks #1417.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Eleanor; two children, Dennis E. Grable of Columbia City and Becky Lee Simons of Grant MI; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Ted T. Grable of Columbia City; and a sister, Connie Rohrbach of Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Gay Feist.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
