Julia Mabel Snodgrass, 98
Julia Mabel Snodgrass, 98, of Columbia City, died at 11:05 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor where she had been a resident since March 18th.
She was born February 11, 1913 in Columbia City, Indiana a daughter of Melvin and Alice (Lower) Schumaker. She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1930 and graduated from Indiana University in 1934.
She taught school at Beech Grove for six years. In 1954 she started teaching Latin and English at Columbia City High School, retiring in 1974 with 20 years of service.
Her memberships include Grace Lutheran Church, Tri Kappa, Parliamentary Club, Indiana and Whitley County Retired Teachers Associations, Col. Augustin de la Balme Chapter of the Daughter of the American Revolution and a life member of the Whitley County Historical Society.
Surviving relatives include two children, Rebecca Snodgrass and William H. Snodgrass, both of Columbia City; a niece and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, John Schumaker and Mary Alice Johnston.
The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The burial will take place at Greenhill Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Grace Lutheran Church or Passages.
