Raimund Hawn, 61
Raimund Hawn, 61, a resident of South Whitley, died at 9:13 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011 at his step-daughter�s home in North Manchester. He had been battling cancer for the past three years.
He was born August 5, 1949 in Frankfurt, Germany a son of the late Duane E. and Herta (Fischer) Hawn. His formative years were spent in the Larwill area. He graduated from Larwill High School in 1968.
His work career included 21 years at the former Gripco, South Whitley. Following the closing of the South Whitley plant, he started his own cleaning service.
On April 9, 1993, he was united in marriage to Florence V. "Flip" Rappl. They made their home south of South Whitley. Mrs. Hawn died April 11, 2007.
He was a member of Sons of AmVets 2919, South Whitley, Loyal Order of Moose, North Manchester and attended Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Indiana Golf Association.
Surviving relatives include two step-sons, Michael (Voula) Minick of Orange Park, FL and Mark (Christine) Minick of California and two step daughters, Michelle (Rev. J.P.) Freeman and Mary (Jonnie Bob) Butterbaugh, both of North Manchester; 10 step-grandchildren and 10 great step-grandchildren and 3 great great step-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley with Rev. J.P. Freeman officiating. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Whitley County Humane Shelter.
