ISMS 7th grade football victorious over Dekalb

Opponent: Dekalb Middle School
The ISMS Eagle Stars took the opening kickoff down the field to score on a 10 yard run by Josh Whitehead at the 2:55 mark in the 1st. The PAT Kick by Kyle Burns was short. The Eagle Stars Defense stepped up and held Dekalb forcing a punt. Our offense was able to move the ball well to set up a 20 yard run up the middle with Braden Myer to score the 2nd TD in the quarter with 10 seconds remaining. The PAT kick by Burns was good, bringing the score to 14-0 at the end of one.
Our kickoff cover set Dekalb back to start their 2nd drive of the evening. They turned the ball over on downs due to superb play by our corners Justin Bachelder and TJ Yagel. The Eagle Stars took the ball on the 30 yard line and broke open a rush up the middle by Braden Meyer, who ran for a 65 yard touchdown breaking numerous tackles. The PAT kick was good by Burns making the score 22-0 with 5:31 remaining in the 2nd quarter. Our front line managed to keep Dekalb from moving the ball forcing another punt. The Eagle Stars worked the clock and Josh Whitehead got outside on a broken play to dash 40 yards for a touchdown with 11 seconds left in the half the PAT kick attempt was low and no good. Making the score 28-0 at the half.
ISMS kicked off to Dekalb to start the 2nd half. Dekalb managed to move the ball on this drive and kept control until fumbling and Jaegar Kreps recovered the turnover.
The Eagle Stars moved the ball down the field to score on a 12 yard run by Justin Bachelder. The PAT, a pass by Burns to Jacob Wolfe was good making the score 35-0 at the 1:50 mark in the 3rd. The defensive unit stood its ground and forced another fumble and again Jaegar Kreps came up with the recovery. TJ Yagel in at QB moved the offense down the field and chewed up some clock. Yagle broke outside and streaked up the sidelines for a 60 yard TD run the PAT kick by Kyle Burns was good bringing the score to 43-0 with 40 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. Dekalb took the kickoff up the field and broke away down the sidelines for a 7 yard touchdown run the PAT was blocked by Indian Springs making the final score 43-6.
“We had several key players banged up and on the sidelines tonight, but our kids stepped up and filled those spots well,” said Coach Brian Bills.
Coach Bills also commented about turnovers, having 3 fumbles during the course of the game is too many; we need to work on ball control he said. Coach Ken Wolfe praised the defensive secondary for playing a heads up game and adjusting well. The coaching staff praised the total team effort put forth tonight. Our linemen made the proper adjustments and did a good job this evening.
The 7th grade squad will host New Haven Middle School next Tuesday, September 22, at Indian Springs Middle School. Start time 5:00 p.m.
