Whitko tennis shuts out Central Noble

The Whitko Wildcats took care of business Monday night against the Central Noble Cougars with a 5-0 shutout in varsity match play.

"The kids played really well tonight.  We are starting to play better and it is rewarding to see the improvement we have made since our first match,” Whitko head coach Erik Hisner said.

Starting the night was Whitko’s No. 1 singles player Kurt Boggs defeating Central Noble’s Ty Goodrich 6-1, 6-0.

The closest match of the night was the No. 2 singles spot as Whitko’s Alex Winger slipped past Austin Pulver of Central Noble 6-7 (7-9), 6-1, 6-4.

"I am really proud of Alex [Winger].  He fought back to win in three sets after losing a marathon first set in a tie break,” Hisner commented.  “I was very impressed with the way he competed."

In No. 3 singles play, Wildcat Josh Larocque completed the Whitko sweep in singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Cougar Chris Truelove.

Whitko continued their winning streak at No.1 and No. 2 doubles play as the duo of Anthony Habermann and Tyler Noragon took out Brain Barr and Matt Paul 6-3, 6-0.

Closing the night on the winning side was the Whitko tandem of Nathan Sherrard and Tyler Murphy in a close 6-4, 6-4 battle over Central Noble’s Nathan Tomcik and Tyler Tisher.

The Wildcats improve to 2-5 (1-0 TRC) on the season and take on Manchester at home on Thursday beginning at 4:30.
