Roundball Chatter

By Andrew Ferrell

As we tuck away the pads, helmets, and pigskin from football season, we also say good-bye to the Wizard. At the same time, we bring out the shorts, jerseys, and round ball for basketball season. We also introduce the Hardwood Mad Hatter as the basketball predictions genius. Every weekend, the Mad Hatter will attempt to predict the weekend sporting events during the winter season. Here comes the Boom!

Up first...

Nov. 13

Whitko vs. Columbia City

Last season Columbia City slipped by Whitko in the final minutes taking out the Wildcats 39-32 at home.  Both teams return many of the same players, with plenty of experience.  This could become a heavily contested game as Whitko head coach Rob Bell is a product of Columbia City head coach Wayne Kreiger. With so many games between the two schools coming down to the wire, The Mad Hatter will say this...

If Columbia City takes off big from the start, CC 52 Whitko 39

If Whitko is hanging around come the fourth quarter, Whitko 47 CC 44

Nov. 14

Churubusco vs. Whitko

Another toss-up! Last year, 'Busco hung in their in the first half, but Whitko pulled away as the second half began, but Whitko also had a strong presence inside.  With the graduation of Emily Bidwell, it might be a long night for the Wildcats. However, the Eagles are under first year head coach Jamie Perlich and there are many questions to be answered. The one thing the Eagles have going for them is the fact that they are at home.

If 'Busco can handle the Whitko defense, 'Busco 49 Whitko 42

If Whitko can show a presence inside, Whitko 38 'Busco 33

Other predictions

The Boilers and Hoosiers win their season openers on the hardwood and the Colts win vs. New England 21-20.
