CC girls' XC finishes in top 5, boys' in top 10

By Andrew Ferrell

I am glad to report that Talk of the Town Sports has reached its 200th entry to the website and with the 200th entry, I am given a successful recap to report. Just maybe, this means that the team that reached that milestone with us will have a successful season; in which case, the Columbia City XC team is the lucky winner.

Both XC teams competed at Huntington North over the weekend and both teams landed in strong spots for the season opener.

The girls' team finished 4th, in a field of 13, and leading the way for the Lady Eagles was freshman Samantha Roush (19:09.00) in 2nd place.  Giving the Lady Eagles another top 10 finish was senior Renee Menzie (19:54.80) in the eighth spot.

Senior Samantha Engle (20:41.90) completed the course in 21st, while freshman Brooke Werstler (21:03.00) ended in the 32nd spot. Rounding out the top 40 was senior Laken Lefever (21:11.20) in 35th, sophomore Carlee Hearld (21:24.70) in 39th, followed by freshman Erin Knepple (21:28.20) in 40th.

On the boys' side junior Brendon Zoltek (17:31.50) led the way in the 29th spot and was followed by freshman Evan Harney (17:32.40) in 31st. Rounding out the top 75 was sophomore Adam Bernhard (18:36.40) in 68th, Ian Rooda (18:37.70) in 69th, Trevor Maggart (18:50.20) in 73rd, and David Potter (18:54.10) in 75th.
